About us
Biography
Creature Feature was formed in 1994 by Kate Evans and Ned Evans who met whilst studying theatre at Middlesex University.
In 1993 in the last year of our degrees, we wanted to produce an indoor children’s show to perform at Glastonbury Festival and so signed up friends (and relatives!) to help get the production up and running.
We enjoyed that so much and were so inspired by the outdoor theatre we saw at Glastonbury, we decided to form a company and started creating street theatre walkabouts and outdoor static shows.
Over the past 25 years we’ve studied at, and taught at The Mask Studio for 2 years, attended a multitude of workshops and courses in clowning, physical theatre, circus, dance, PD, business administration, marketing, finance and computer skills; and as Creature Feature we have produced 15 different acts and also provide workshops in mask and puppet making/performance and storytelling. In 1996 we wrote a business plan and then successfully applied for a business start-up loan from The Prince’s Trust. The Arts Council then funded the production of our first street show ‘A Recipe For Disaster’ and in 2000 The Millennium Dome and Zap Arts helped fund the production of ‘Goin’ Ape – The Gorillas’. We’re currently working on a new production – ‘Alienation’ and are applying for funding to produce this act for 2019.
Highlights for us have included being asked to perform The Gorillas for The Aspinall Foundation Charity Ball for the past 4 years – this is where we first studied gorillas whilst developing the act; performing two of our acts at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles’s 50th Birthday celebration; and making the puppets and masks for Billy Elliott The Musical.
Creature Feature now employs over 20 freelance performers from all over the UK for specific gigs and below we’ve included a selection of festivals and events we’ve performed at since 1994.
